official borders of the State of Israel

  • What are the official borders of the State of Israel that are recognized by the Government of Canada?

  • Dear harrysteiman-ga, The Canadian Government?s foreign policy appears on the below link. Canada recognises the borders of Israel as they existed before the war of 1967. Canadian policy on key issues in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (see the page for additional information.) "Occupied territories Canada does not recognize permanent Israeli control over territories occupied in 1967 (the Golan Heights, the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip). Canada opposes all unilateral actions that might prejudge the outcome of negotiations, including the establishment of settlements in the territories, unilateral moves to annex East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, and construction of the barrier inside the West Bank and East Jerusalem." http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/middle_east/can_policy-en.asp "Canada's explanation of vote Status of the Occupied Territories Palestinian Territory, Including East Jerusalem General Assembly, 58th Session (2003) May 6, 2004 Canada regrets to see the addition of yet another resolution added to an already lengthy list of resolutions on the Middle East. Canada firmly supports UN Security Council Resolutions 242, 338, and 1397, including the requirement for Israeli withdrawal from territories occupied in 1967." http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/middle_east/resolutions/ga58_1-en.asp "Canada continues to have strong concerns regarding Israeli practices in the occupied territories. Canada does not recognize permanent Israeli control over the territories occupied in 1967 (the Golan Heights, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip) and opposes all unilateral actions intended to predetermine the outcome of negotiations, including the establishment of settlements in the territories. Settlement expansion, the expropriation of lands, and the destruction of houses and property within the occupied territories are contrary to international law, undermine prospects for a two state solution, and are harmful to the peace process. We call on Israel to respect its obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention on the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, which applies de jure to the occupied territories, including East Jerusalem." http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/middle_east/resolutions/canada_statement_middle_east-en.asp You can a map for 1967 on this link. http://www.mideastweb.org/israelafter1967.htm I hope this answers your question. • What Canada recognizes and what is possible are rather different matters. Israel will hang on to Jerusalem - they will never give up some rather Cotswoldish developments outside They are incredibly proud of the area, and to be honest, I can rather understand it.

  • The Arabs are also proud of there heritage
